
Sarah Pittman, Ph.D.
Dr. Sarah Pittman is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who provides evidenced-based therapy and comprehensive multi-systemic psychological evaluations. She has expertise in using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills to treat a range of mental health concerns, including trauma and stress disorders, mood and anxiety disorders, behavior concerns, and caregiver-child conflicts. Dr. Pittman has a particular focus in treating children, adolescents, and young adults who have experienced trauma or major life stressors; treating children and adolescents who have difficulties controlling their emotions and behaviors; and providing behavioral parent training to treat disruptive behaviors. Dr. Pittman incorporates a strengths-based and culturally-responsive approach in her therapy to tailor evidence-based treatments to meet the individual needs of each client. Dr. Pittman has worked in a variety of settings, including inpatient psychiatric and medical hospitals, primary care clinics, specialty pediatric clinics (e.g., craniofacial, hematology/oncology), and private practices.
Dr. Pittman completed a Bachelor of Arts in psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a PhD in clinical psychology and a concentration in child and adolescent psychology. She completed her pre-doctoral clinical internship at Virginia Treatment Center for Children. After graduating, Dr. Pittman completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in the Injury and Violence Prevention Program in the Department of Surgery at VCU. She has conducted research on causes and consequences of violence, trauma, and self-injury, primarily among adolescents.
